The Radical Jesus Style
5 Disruptive Shifts to Close the Authority Gap
Shift 4: Flexibility as a Spiritual Counter-Discipline
We treat our meticulous planning and five-year goals as signs of wisdom, but often, they are a form of idolatry—a refusal to trust God’s sovereignty. A “Flexible Spirit” is a prerequisite for the Jesus Style.
Consider the Apostle Paul: he had a strategy, but when the Spirit blocked his path to Asia, he pivoted to Macedonia. If your “plans” are too rigid to be redirected by God, you are worshiping your schedule, not the Creator. We can afford to be flexible because our lives are a “mist”—a temporary vapor. In light of eternity, our stubborn insistence on our own way is a sign of spiritual weakness, not strength. Letting go of control is the ultimate act of trust.
“What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’” — James 4:14-15
