In our distraction-filled world, focusing on prayer can feel like swimming upstream. Our minds are accustomed to constant stimulation and multitasking, making it challenging to be fully present with God.
So how do you give God your undivided attention in prayer?
Start by carving out dedicated space and time for communion with Him.
Put away your phone, close your laptop, and find a quiet place where you can minimize interruptions.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you quiet your mind and tune out distractions.
As you pray, practice the art of single-tasking. When your mind starts to wander (and it will), gently redirect your thoughts back to God.
If you catch yourself mentally making a to-do list or replaying a conversation, simply acknowledge the distraction and refocus on His presence.
Remember, developing attentiveness in prayer is a skill that takes practice. It may feel uncomfortable or even impossible at first, but don't get discouraged. Keep showing up, keep redirecting your mind, and trust that the Holy Spirit is helping you grow in your ability to be fully present with your heavenly Father.
