“He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.” (Psalm 107:20 NLT)
One of the most profitable sectors of the world economy is the healthcare industry. Why? We will all get sick eventually. We always need to see a doctor (annual check-ups); we always need to take a pill, try a new medicine, or try something new to improve our health.
But let me challenge you today with something old that works exceptionally well. It’s the Word of God. You see, God’s Word brings healing to us. It may be a brand new idea to you, but we would like to invite you to consider this account from one of our previous pastors at Visalia First (featured on YouTube at The Daily Devo):1
“When I was a fifth-grader, I was diagnosed with scoliosis. What does that mean? That means I had a curve in my spine. My shoulders were off-centered enough that my hands were a full length apart from each other when I stood. And it finally came to the decision that I would have to have surgery to correct this issue.
So I went to the children’s Shriners Hospital, and they were doing all the tests they needed to determine my condition before the surgery. We were going to our last appointment, you know, where they tell you about all the risks with surgery. So our meeting was on a Thursday, but on that previous Wednesday night, as a fifth-grade boy, I understood God’s Word and that God heals. And I remember back to the Book of James, where it says, “if there’s any sick among you, call upon the elders of the church, and they’ll anoint you with oil, and you will be healed.”
So that Wednesday night, I asked, “Pastor, will you and all the elders pray for me?”
And so, in our tiny little church, five guys stood around me, praying for me. I went home, not knowing what was going to happen. The next day I went to the doctor’s appointment. The doctor looked me all over, and he did one last x-ray. He was getting ready to go ahead full-speed with the operation as soon as he did the final inspection.
And, suddenly, he started having a perplexed look on his face. You see, something had happened. Something was different. There was no curvature in my spine! He showed us the x-rays from a couple of months before that showed the curvature in my spine. Then he showed me the x-rays from just a few hours ago. I was totally healed. My back was straight, and I didn’t need surgery!
I still haven’t had surgery. My shoulders are just fine because God heals!
Now, He healed me because I chose to believe and stand upon the Word of God as my foundation of faith. God’s Word has all the promises I need for healing.
And I remind myself of that over and over again. Every time I partake of the communion bread, I take that bread; I remember that His stripes have healed me. I think back to Jesus when He said to people, “Your faith has made you well.”
Well, how do I get more faith? By reading the Word of God, speaking the Word of God, and having this Word be every part of my life. I appreciate doctors, and I’m thankful for what they do. But I appreciate the Word of God even more!
Get in the Word so that you may know what you can get from the Word and be healed.”
Don’t you love that testimony? Know that it is wise to understand that God’s Word was sent to us to heal us in spirit, soul, and body. Get the Word of God into your heart, and your faith will grow, grow, grow! God is no respecter of persons.

Action Steps:
God’s Word was sent to us to bring about the healing we need. It is not until we partake and ingest the Word of God into our consciousness that it has the opportunity to heal our total beings. Decide that God’s Word is like medicine and nutritious food to your body, and be diligent to partake of it daily.
Ask God to show you instances in the Word where He healed people. Ask God for a gift of faith to help you believe He wants to heal you.
Pray for others who are ill by telling them that God is still a healer of human bodies. Nothing is too hard for Him if and when we believe His Word!
